Why is the Town doing this assessment?

Cochrane is growing and the Town needs a clear, evidence-based understanding of current and future housing needs.

A Housing Needs Assessment helps the Town understand where housing gaps may exist and plan responsibly for the future.

What does the Housing Needs Assessment include?

    1. A review of housing affordability, adequacy and suitability across the community.

    2. An analysis of housing availability and projected housing demand as Cochrane continues to grow.

    3. Input from residents, community organizations, service providers and the development community to inform the study. This includes:

    • Open survey to residents 18 years and older
    • Open survey to residents 14 - 17 years of age
    • Open house style engagements with specific groups
      • Seniors
      • Youth
      • Indigenous
      • Mixed
    • Interviews with select stakeholders
    • Pop-up events at SLS Centre and the Cochrane Public Library

How is my input being used?

    • The study will provide the Town with a clear, locally informed understanding of housing needs across different life stages, household types and income levels.

    • Results will support more thoughtful, proactive planning to ensure Cochrane has the right mix of housing to support a growing and diverse community.

    • Findings will help the Town prioritize actions and investments that improve housing stability, choice, and affordability over the short and long term.

    • Community input will help ensure future housing policies and strategies are grounded in local values and lived experience—not one-size-fits-all solutions.
