Purpose

Help Shape the Future of Housing in Cochrane

Cochrane is growing and so are the housing needs of our community. To plan responsibly for the years ahead, the Town of Cochrane is completing a comprehensive Housing Needs Assessment — a study that looks at what types of homes people need today, and what will be needed in the future. The Housing Needs Assessment will help to pinpoint current and emerging gaps in Cochrane’s housing landscape; partnering with CitySpaces Consulting to help lead this work.

The study will explore a wide range of housing-related factors – including affordability, suitability, adequacy and the types of homes residents are seeking. The study will also assess how well existing housing options meet the needs of people who live and work in Cochrane and identify where gaps remain. This assessment will include focus groups, pop-up events and two public survey's.

The findings from this assessment will inform future housing policies, programs and planning decisions. That’s where you come in.

We’re inviting all Cochrane residents to participate in one of two short survey's to share their experiences and perspectives on housing. Your input will help us to understand how Cochrane plans for growth — ensuring it remains a great place to call home now and in the years ahead. Please find two links below for the survey.

Objective

A key component of this project is to gather community-level feedback on:

  • The most pressing housing challenges residents experience.

  • Who is most affected and how those impacts show up day-to-day.

  • What housing types and solutions the community believes Cochrane needs moving forward.

Inputs collected will inform recommendations, guide policy development, and shape the Town’s long-range approach to housing.

The What We Heard report will be shared in April 2026.
