Plow chica plow plow takes top spot
Congratulations to all of our grade three students!
RancheView School's grade three students secured the top spot in Cochrane's snow plow naming contest with their winning entry, ' Plow Chica Plow Plow.' Mayor Jeff Genung and Council celebrated their creativity with a snow plow tour and snow cone dance party at RancheView School on January 16, 2024.
Genung joined the festivities to congratulate RancheView:
" I want to thank all grade three students and teachers for their awesome contributions," said Mayor Jeff Genung. "I was blown away at the imagination and creativity behind all the submissions. A special congratulations to RancheView for their winning names 'Plow Chica Plow Plow' and 'Sweeping Beauty.' Winter safety is such an important message to instill in our kids and this was a creative way to engage them in that." Read the full release here.
Seven schools participated
Seven schools participated, including: Westbrook Elementary, RancheView, Glenbow Elementary, Fireside, Ecole Notre Dame De Valle, Holy Spirit School and Cochrane Christian Academy. The schools submitted around 50 imaginative names for consideration. These names were shortlisted based on creativity, popularity and how well the names captured the unique spirit of Cochrane. Each school had at least one name represented in the final selection.

After an overwhelming 1034 residents voted between November 6-27th, we are thrilled to announce the winning names for our four essential snow plows, including one new addition, and a dedicated street sweeper!

About the contest
Beyond celebrating a new snow plow to our snow clearing fleet, the snow plow and street sweeper contest aimed to foster discussions about safety during cold, snowy days, and educate residents on our snow clearing service levels.
